In this work, the marital bond is an unconscious creation of both spouses, and it is also our patient.
Combining the conscious and unconscious personality structure of both, produces the marital relationship, therefore in psychoanalytic couples’ therapy, there are three patients in the clinic : the two spouses and their relationship.
